Intro
The Lancaster & Morecambe Vision Board, whose membership spans the business and economic communities of the district, together with representatives of key public sector agencies, was invited by the Northwest Regional Development Agency and Lancaster City Council to devise an economic vision for a rebranded and rejuvenated Lancaster & Morecambe.
A first draft of a new economic vision was produced in February 2006. For two months we invited members of the public, the business community, political groups and other stakeholder organisations to contribute their views on The Vision.
We now take pleasure in publishing the final Vision, incorporating a considerable number of changes and improvements which arose through the consultation process. Click on the Vision menu tab to view the full and abridged final versions of the Vision. Printed copies can also be picked up at Lancaster and Morecambe Town Halls and at Palatine Hall in Dalton Square.
The Vision has been agreed and adopted by the Council and by the Lancaster Strategic Partnership and as such it now forms a part of the Community Strategy for the district.
The Vision Board is now focusing on the realisation of the Vision through steering the delivery of its many constituent projects and initiatives and seeking funding for their implementation. Six themed steering groups have been established to drive forward our ambitious programme for economic progress, addressing Transport, The Visitor Economy, Business & The Knowledge Economy, Employability & Skills Development, The Environmental Economy and Culture & Pride.
We would like to thank all those who participated in the public and stakeholder consultation and we hope for the continued support of the people of Lancaster & Morecambe and the wider district.
Lancaster & Morecambe
a much more significant regional asset,
with a distinctive and unique identity
synonymous with:
excellence in education;
certain niche areas of the knowledge economy;
heritage, rural and coastal tourism;
and quality of life / work-life balance.
On the following pages we present a full version of the Vision and a summarised version, together with a number of reports commissioned by the Vision Board with a view to exploring or justifying further investment in the district. |
